Week of April 21 - 25

This week students had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Earth Systems and began an investigation that will lead us to understand the connections between the different Earth Systems.

Learning Outcomes

I can analyze the interconnectedness of Earth's Systems

I can describe the impact the sun has on living organisms

I can describe the impact water has on living organisms

I can describe the impact air has on living orgranisms.


Students headed outside to look for living things in our school yard.  Initially, students found it difficult to find living things but once we quieted our bodies and voices and slowed down to take in what was around us, nature began to reveal itself.  Some began to hear various birds in the trees and surrounding area, some noticed some early buds on trees and one even had a small creature (a ladybug) crawl up onto their hand, quite to their surprise.  Students then sketched and described what they saw in three different locations around the school.  Students were encouraged to look for different signs of life at each site.  All came away with multiple examples.  We will then use these examples next week to examine in greater detail the learning outcomes stated above.

We look forward to watching them draw great connections to their prior knowledge and deepen it through our continued work together.

Hello Grade 4 Families! It has been an exciting few weeks in Grade 4 and I appreciate how flexible and kind all of your children have been during this transition! Week of May 5 - 9

 This week students continued their investigation into the spheres of the Earth but looked at the spheres from a different perspective.  We invited students to consider the interconnectedness of the spheres through the perspective of Indigenous cultures.   Some of the outcomes from our new science curriculum include: First Nations, Métis, and Inuit hold understandings of Earth systems that sustain life, including that all things are interconnected. First Nations, Métis, and Inuit laws of nature include: how nature provides gifts of life living in harmony with the land Discuss the importance of governments, conservation groups, and First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities working alongside Parks Canada. First Nations, Métis, and Inuit have a long history with the land that has informed conservation practices and beliefs.
